Project ELLO
Everyday Language and Learning Opportunities
Mission
Project ELLO (Everyday Language and Learning Opportunities) is designed to increase the number of quality, language-rich interactions between caregivers and young children. The project’s central idea is simple but powerful: talking is free, and it can transform children’s lives.
What Project ELLO Does
-
Connects with Home Routines – Materials are tailored to familiar activities such as grocery shopping, doing laundry, taking public transit, and bedtime routines.
-
Brings Learning into Community Spaces – Libraries, outdoor parks, and everyday settings become opportunities for language growth.
-
Provides Practical Resources – Caregivers receive easy-to-use conversation tips and guides that fit naturally into their daily lives.
Why it Matters
-
For children: Frequent, high-quality conversations build vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence.
-
For caregivers: Everyday routines become moments of connection, not added work.
-
For communities: ELLO creates shared opportunities to support children’s early learning across familiar spaces.
Local Partnerships
Through a collaboration with the Missoula Reads Coalition, Project ELLO is expanding locally with hELLO Missoula. This extension highlights local spaces and places where families with young children can engage in language-rich experiences.
